Jammer's Reviews
Site Overview

Welcome to Jammer's Reviews, the official site for all my reviews of Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, and more. Jammer's reviews have been a presence on the Web since March 1995. For nearly a decade, this site was known as Star Trek: Hypertext, although I opted to change it along with a server move in April 2006.

Current reviews

I'm currently reviewing Battlestar Galactica. Reviews for those episodes are typically posted within a week or two of the episode airing in the United States. There are sometimes delays; in such cases, delays are often explained in the Web site notes. After years of requests, I'm also currently writing brief retrospective reviews for Star Trek: The Next Generation. I am writing these reviews in the original air date order. The reviews are added as I find time to write them. The process, I fully admit, is very slow going, but I will get it done. I hope to complete the TNG reviewing project by August 31, 2008. (No promises, but that's the goal.)

Archived content

Past series that I've reviewed include all episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Enterprise, and Star Trek: The Original Series. Also included are reviews for the first two seasons of Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda, all ten of the Star Trek feature films, and some stray columns on movies, TV, and other topics (in the Articles & Miscellaneous section).

Jammer's Blog

I also write a blog at IDWID.com. Technically, the site is separate from Jammer's Reviews (and it certainly has a less focused mission), but if you like my reviews, you might also like the blog. Articles that might previously have been posted in Miscellaneous on this site will likely instead go in the blog.

General information and notices

  • Spoilers: All my reviews (except book reviews and non-Trek movie reviews), contain significant spoilers. If you haven't seen an episode and don't want to be spoiled, then you shouldn't read the review. (Of course, your reason for being here might be to read spoilers, so by all means go ahead.)
  • Review format and length: My reviews are about a 50-50 balance of synopsis and analysis/opinion. Although they are intended to be read by those familiar with the shows, they also contain enough synopsis so that someone who hasn't seen the shows (or can't because of their location) can fully understand them (and for some the reviews can serve as an alternative to the shows themselves). My reviews tend to average about 1,500 words, but length can vary, particularly in some of my earlier reviews. Reviews of ST:TOS, ST:TNG, and the first two seasons of ST:DS9 use a shorter format.
  • My rating scale: I use the popular four-star model (not five). See details here.
  • This site contains copyrighted material: The general usage rules are "don't alter or make money off my stuff" and "don't plagiarize or pretend you wrote my reviews" -- mostly common sense, but read the Copyright & Disclaimer for details. (If you have questions regarding the use of my work, please feel free to send me e-mail.)
  • Advertisements: I run some limited advertising using Google and Amazon affiliate programs. These ads are intended to bring in a small amount of revenue for me while being useful to the visitors of this site and without detracting from the user experience. I have no control over the content of the Google ads; use your own discretion in clicking on them. The Amazon ads are intended to highlight relevant products related to the contents of this site, and in some cases I have hand-picked links to individual items. Your use of these links is completely your prerogative. I take no repsonsibility for the conduct of any external organization.

Additional features and content delivery

  • User comments: Commenting by readers is permitted at the end of most reviews and articles. Please read the comment policy.
  • Review Mailer: All of my new reviews are mailed out to subscribers when they are posted on this site. Learn how to join here.
  • Printer-friendly feature: All reviews contain a link to a format of the review that's ideal for printing. This version of the review should also print by default when you select "Print" in your browser from the main page.
  • RSS feeds: You can add links to the latest reviews, blogs, and comments to your feed reader. Get the feeds here.
  • Plain-Text Edition: If you want to read my reviews free of HTML (or keep a lower profile while reading at work), you can read or download many of my reviews in plain-text format.
  • TrekToday headlines: These links are served by TrekToday.com external servers. All content is managed by them.

Design notes

Structurally, this site was completely redesigned in September 2007. The general look and feel date back to August 2002, although numerous tweaks have been made since then. Read the design comments for details and notes. This site should be user-friendly and accessible on modern browsers. CSS support, however, is required for viewing the display properly.

This site is fully XHTML 1.0 and CSS compliant, and all pages have been validated through the W3C. Testing was performed on Internet Explorer 7.0 and Firefox 2.0. For best results, be sure CSS, JavaScript, and cookies are enabled on your browser.
